The question, "How was South Africa?" is always a difficult one to answer when you first arrive home. In 2010, my answer was something along the lines of, "It was heartbreaking and amazing all at the same time." I said that because that trip changed my life. It opened my eyes to so many new things, and at the same time, it simply restored me. It restored my heart for serving, for building relationships and community, and especially for God. I felt completely unworthy of being called to be a part of something that was so big. When I got home, I knew that my heart for South Africa wasn't over. After months of waiting, I was so excited to go back again this August and see what was in store for me this time.
Now, that I've been back a week and people ask me, "How was South Africa?" I've realized that it's been kind of hard for me to answer anything beyond saying, "It was good." This trip was just consistently good. I don't know how else to put it. I also know that it doesn't really explain a whole lot of what went on while I was there. Therefore, that's kind of where I got the idea to start this blog. I wanted there to be one place where people could go to know why it was such a "good" experience for me. Thus, this blog will be simply be dedicated to telling you stories from South Africa.
I want you to know how God moved. I want you to see pictures of the things that I saw and know why they're important to me. I want you to understand why my heart continues to grow with a deep appreciation and love for all of the people I know there and for the ministry that's taking place there too. Finally, I want you to know why I am beyond grateful that I went to South Africa again.
Thank you for supporting me in my journey back to South Africa.
